Characteristic of the Regional Rainy Season Onset over Vietnam: Tailoring to Agricultural Application

چکیده
Owing to its unique position within multiple monsoon regimes, latitudinal extent, and complex topography, Vietnam is divided into seven agroclimatic zones, each with distinct rainy season characteristics. Variation in the dominant rainfall system across zones affects climatology, primary water resource for regional crops. This study explores creation of an agronomic onset based on high-resolution data zone applications agricultural context. Onset information has huge practical importance both agriculture economy. The spatiotemporal characteristics zonal date are analyzed using integrated approaches spatial interannual variability, temporal changes, estimation predictability teleconnection Niño 3.4 sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) 1980 2010. Results suggest that northern southern experience dates May, while central late August. variability lower higher which latitudinally extended. variation found be approximately two weeks all zones. significant negative trend Central Coast South suggesting shifted earlier entire period. Sub-seasonal Predictability of the Onset and Demise of the Rainy Season over Monsoonal Regions
Sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) retrospective forecasts from three global coupled models are used to evaluate the predictability of the onset and demise dates of the rainy season over monsoonal regions. The onset and demise dates of the rainy season are defined using only precipitation data. The forecasts of the onset and demise dates of the rainy season are based on a hybrid methodology that co...
متن کاملHierarchical Bayesian modeling of multisite daily rainfall occurrence: Rainy season onset, peak, and end
[1] A quantitative definition of and ability to predict the onset and duration of the dominant rainfall season in a region are important for agricultural and natural resources management. In this paper, a methodology based on an analysis of daily rainfall occurrence is proposed and applied to define the onset and end of the rainfall season in northeast Brazil. Multiple rainfall gauges are consi...
متن کاملEnhanced future variability during India’s rainy season
[1] The Indian summer monsoon shapes the livelihood of a large share of the world’s population. About 80% of annual precipitation over India occurs during the monsoon season from June through September. Next to its seasonal mean rainfall, the day-to-day variability is crucial for the risk of flooding, national water supply, and agricultural productivity. Here we show that the latest ensemble of...

15 صفحه اولRainforest-initiated wet season onset over the southern Amazon.
Although it is well established that transpiration contributes much of the water for rainfall over Amazonia, it remains unclear whether transpiration helps to drive or merely responds to the seasonal cycle of rainfall. Here, we use multiple independent satellite datasets to show that rainforest transpiration enables an increase of shallow convection that moistens and destabilizes the atmosphere...
